Beautiful Muslim

How Muslims Deal With Discrimination

Do you have a problem with Islamophobia? If yes, there are several things that you need to understand. It’s a common prejudice which is evident in Western society. As a result, there is also need for action against this prejudice.

A good example of a well-known case is of how the bigotry towards Muslims in some US states has driven a woman to kill herself. The United States has many Muslims residing in the country and it can be said that they don’t find discrimination in their culture or way of life. In fact, even the most devout Muslims have nothing to fear from the state authorities.

But there are others who go on a campaign against a particular group – generally under the pretext of ‘protecting’ the so-called minorities – a majority of whose members do not belong to the minority in their own religion. This type of intolerance may be manifested at religious schools and other institutions like universities. These actions may lead to several problems including exclusion of the groups in the case of political parties, corporate houses and educational institutions. Some states in the US have prohibited people belonging to the same faith in the administration.

This kind of bigotry is a problem that is shared by many nations and the world community. It is because of the severe discrimination and the paranoia against Muslim and other minority groups that Muslims are being blamed by such states as the next 9/11. This has been creating animosity against Muslims and other minorities.

Even if we take the emotional arguments out of the equation, this prejudice is not helping the Muslim religion and its members. What we need is not anger and hate, but kindness, understanding and love among us.

We need to discuss hard and tough questions. There are many examples of Muslims facing discrimination because of some hard facts. But at the same time, it’s important to understand that Muslims are human beings and have rights.

In the good example, when there was discrimination against Italians and Japanese during the Second World War, many Americans worked to realize their causes and succeed. There are also Muslims who have overcome those prejudices, and there are still more who have not.

You might ask yourself whether the Quran is responsible for this. To say it doesn’t matter. Those who really need this book to read and learn from it cannot but see the problem.

Vandalization, contempt, and vilification have existed long before the emergence of the Quran. We have accepted the words of the Quran from the European history to the present day. There has been a lot of debate and arguments on the role of the Quran and how it might have contributed to the oppression of women and minorities.

Are we satisfied with the changes, as far as violence, disrespect, and vilification are concerned? That is a very difficult question to answer, but it is undeniable that there have been tremendous changes. Are we ready to accept them?

The above example shows how easy it is to get offended and how easy it is to cause strife between the followers of different religions, however, let’s not forget the fact that there are a lot of Muslims, who are doing good things all around the world. By pointing out the flaws in our perception, we can grow a little closer.
